Canterbury Championships

October 25, 2009 | Posted in , Tagged

Below you can read the schedule for events run by Canterbury Athletics.

Club uniform is compulsory and participants must wear their age patch (Juniors) and Seniors their registration numbers at all the competitions.

We would encourage all registered athletes to compete in these various competitions. They get a sense of belonging to the club, competition improves their performance and they meet athletes from other clubs and develop ongoing friendships.

1. Canterbury Children’s Athletic Championships:

A two day event (Sat and Sun) with an early start on Day 1 (8.30am).

This is another highlight of the athletic calendar for the 7 – 14 year olds.  From this meet, as well as from performances throughout the season, provincial representatives are chosen for the final meet of the season.

Venue:  All Weather Track, Aorangi Park, Timaru

Date:  Day 1 Saturday 10th March 2012

Day 2 Sunday 11th March 2012

Cost:  $20.00 registration fee

If you think you may compete in these Championships, payment (at the time of the Club Fees) is advisable as times and distances are submitted to Canterbury during the season.

$5.00 per day gate fee for adults is usually charged.

Entries:  Pre-entered with Club together with payment of $1.00 per event.

Entries and payment required early February

Selection for the Canterbury Provincial team can mean traveling to Blenheim, Christchurch or Invercargill for the 7 – 11 year olds or further afield for the 12 – 13 year olds.  This is for the top athletes in the two grades and selected by Canterbury Selectors.

2. Canterbury Championships:

This competition is for senior registered athletes only and is held over three days.

Venue: All Weather Track, Aorangi Park, Timaru

Date: Saturday 2 March & Sunday 4th March

Cost: To be advised

7. Canterbury Inter-Club Meetings:
Inter-club meeting are held in Christchurch every week, mornings for juniors 7 – 14 yrs and afternoon for seniors. All competitors must be registered with Canterbury (see Registration/Costs). South Canterbury seniors athletes travel to Christchurch most Saturdays as a club for the competition. Athletes must be senior registered, or on selected Saturdays, Secondary School Athletes are invited but must compete in High School Sports Uniform.
