Simon Bunckenburg won his first Wellington Track & Field Title on Saturday at Newtown Stadium when he took out the Senior Mens 400m in 52.50 seconds.

On the same day at Athletics Canterbury Inter-club in Christchurch @ QEII Rebecca Hodgson won the W19 Hammer (47.99m)

In Dunedin at the Otago Track & Field Champs Lauren Nicol cleaned up the W19 100m(13.19),200m(26.81) and 400m(60.09)titles and in doing so beat New Zealand Schools 100m Bronze Medallist .

Nicol was also runner up in the SW 100m(13.37).

Lucinda Shaw took out the W19 3km Track Walk(16.31.53) and was 2nd in the discus(24.60m)

La Toya TeKapa was runner up in the W19 high jump(1.60m) and Hayley Davidson finished 3rd in the W16 1500m(5.39.77)

Tyler Collings finished 3rd in the M19 400m in a smart 49.39 in an excellent field

La Toya Te Kapa again showed promising form winning the W16 high jump with a leap of 1.66m and narrowly missing 1.71m

Rebecca Hodgson had a busy day winning the W19 hammer(44.05m)shot put(7.89m) and discus(30.08m) with Ruby Cochrane winning the W16 discus(30.87m) with Caitlin Henderson 5th.

Lauren Nicol ran only the SW 100m  finishing 6th(13.15)

Daniel Laws won both the SM 110m hurdles(18.38) and 400m Hurdles(60.58)

In the M19 grade Harlem cole finished 2nd in the 100m(11.89) with Jay Finikin 7th(12.08) and 6th in the 200m(24.65)

In the M16 Josh Westland finished 3rd in both the 800,(2.11.39) and 3000m(10.16.35) with Alex Smith 6th in the 800m(2.20.20) and 13th in the 3000m(11.08.14)

Athletics TT21 NZ v Australia

South Canterbury and Timaru Boys High School sprinter Tyler Collings had his first taste of International competition on Friday evening  when running for New Zealand in the Under 21 Test against Australia running within the Brisbane Classic International Meet in the Invitation 400metres mixing it with the   Australian Olympic Silver Medal 4x400m quartet from Beijing  ,Joel Milburn,Ben Offereins,Steven Solomon and Kevin Moore who also collected the Gold Medal in the same event at the Delhi Commonwealth Games finishing in a very creditable 49.99 for his first outing in the Silver Fern  ,expreriencing the very best which was very exciting .

Team mate Alex Jordan finished a very creditable third in the same race

Club Champs Day 1

Close to seventy athletes turned out on Saturday for day one of the South Canterbury Amateur Athletics Club, Club Championships held at the Alpine Energy All Weather Track.  Six club best performances were broken with two athletes slashing the discus performances for their age groups.  Lauren Bruce 13 year old girls threw 27.27m to beat the current record by just under 3 metres while Hamish Dewar now holds the 14 year old boys best performance at 38.20m beating the previous record of 33.33m in all three attempts.  Nine year old Ben Sewell broke his own record set late last year in the shot put, 9.09m.  On the track in near perfect conditions three 200m best performances were bettered, 12 year old Mac Basford 28.4s, 10 year old Anna Hayward 30.4s and Elizabeth Hampton ran 29.6s in the 11 year old girls to beat the current time by one second.

10 South Canterbury athletics competed at the Athletics Canterbury Interclub Meet on Saturday at QEII Stadium.
Leading the charge La toya Te Kapa won the W16 High Jump with a fine leap of 1.65m.
Rebecca Hodgson won the W19 Hammer with another fine throw of 47.35m and in the same grade Lucinda shaw took out the 3000m Track Walk in 16.0830..
In the SM Daniel Laws won both the 110mhurdles(18.01) and 400mhurdles(60.84) and in the M19 Tyler collings cruised to win the 400m(50.67), Brett Clifford won the 1500m(4.12.11), and Daniel Lord took out the 3000m track Walk(13.19.66) and javelin(42.21mPB).

Cooks Garden Classic

Tom Walsh (SCAAC)won the Open Mens shot put at the Cooks Garden Classic in Palmerston North and Daniel Lord(SCAAC) finished 2nd to Matthew Holcroft(Waikato-BOP) in the Open 3000m track Walk at the same meet
