Athletics Canterbury Interclub 15/1/11

7 South CAnterbury athletes competed at the Athletics Canterbury Interclub Meet at QEII, Chistchurch on Saturday in hot,windy conditions amongst disabled athletes in Christchurch for the forthcoming World IPC Championships that start next week.
Performances to catch the eye were Lauren Nicol pushing Kelsey Berryman all the way in the SW 100m,Berryman being last years W19 runner up in the New Zealand W19 Championship.Nicol later finished 3rd in the SW 200m.
Tyler Collings finished 2nd in the SM 200m in 22.84PB and earlier had finished 5th in the SM 100m and the other performance to catch the eye was Rebecca Hodgson in the W19 Hammer winning that with 47.04m-Hodgson also won the Javelin and finished 2nd in the shot put in the same grade.
Leanne McKenzie won the W19 shot put(9.11m)W16 high jump(1.60m) and Javelin(32.52mPB) with Daniel Laws taking out the SM 400mH and finishing 4th in the SM200m,Michael Dewar winning the M16 Hammer(40.70m) and finishing 2nd in the discus and Hayley Davidson finishing 5th in the W16 1500 and 7th in the SW 200m(32.74PB)

2011 SOUTH ISLAND COLGATE GAMES

Forty three 7-14year old athletes from the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic club will travel to Dunedin to compete over 3 days at the South Island Colgate Games to be held at the Caledonian Grounds.  The games commence Friday 14th January with a March Past by all clubs followed by an official opening, the competition will finish with relay finals Sunday afternoon.  The 7-9 year olds will compete for pennants in divisions whereas the 10-14 year olds will compete for medals in their respective age groups.    913 athletes have registered to compete from as far North as Whangarei

Excellent competitor numbers coupled with outstanding performances and ideal weather highlighted the Athletics Canterbury Inter-club Timaru New Year Meet held at Aorangi Park Aorangi All Weather Athletic Track on Saturday.
A feature of the meet was the high calibre throwing exponents Internationally and Nationally competing.
Oceania Champion Marshall Hall(Otago) took out the Open Mens discus(51.78m)from Western Samoan Olympic Representative Shaka Sola(Wellington)(46.41m) with Damien Smuts(North Harbour 46.09m) third and New Zealand Secondary Schools Champion Hayden Hall (Canterbury 45.23m) getting up to 4th on his final throw.
Age Group International Ryan Tinkle(Wellington) took out the Open Hammer with a fine throw of 55.02m frm Smuts and Sola.
Local World Junior Representative Tom Walsh (Canterbury) took out the Open Mens Shot Put(17.41m) from Sola and Smuts.
Olympian Sola took out the overall Throwing Champion title for the Meet over the 3 disciplines to make a great throwing competition that saw 7 of New Zealands top throwers competing.
Tim Jones took out the Open Mens 100m in a slick 10.66 from World Junior 400m representative Alex Jordan (Tasman) (10.74) with local lad and New Zealand Secondary Schools 400m Champion Tyler Collings (Canterbury) third in 11.31.
Jordan reversed the placings in the Senior 200m winning in 21.46 from Jones(21.72)
World Youth representative Nick Ash(Canterbury)took out the Mens 400m from Collings(Canterbury)
Hazel Bowring-Scott(Tasman) the New Zealand Secondary Schools 400m Champion took out the Open Womens 100m(12.45) from Fiona Morrison (Canterbury 12.48),Kelsy Berryman(Canterbury 12.58),Abbe Watson (Canterbury 12.61),Lauren Nicol(Canterbury 12.61) and Kathryn Stuart(Canterbury 12.76) in a high quality National field that assembled.Morrison won the Open Womens shot put and Long Jump.
In the Womens 400m World Junior Semi-Finalist Angie Smit beat local lass and New Zealand Secondary Schools Bronze Medallist ,Lauren Nicol(Canterbury)
Rebecca Hodgson (Canterbury) the New Zealand Secondary Schools Silver Medallist took out the Open Womens Hammer(47.03m) with Ruby Cochrane (Canterbury) the New Zealand Secondary Schools Junior Girls Bronze Medallist taking out the Open Womens discus(34.97mPB) as well as recording a PB in the Javelin(26.32) with Rebecca Hodgson (canterbury) second in the discus(26.90m)
In the Open Womens High Jump local lasses La toya Te Kapa(Canterbury) and Leanne McKenzie(Canterbury) shared the spoils both clearing 1.0m with New Zealand Secondary Schools Junior Girls High Jump Champion Erica Winton(Canterbury)(1.60m) third on a count back.
The Lovelock Mile was won in impressive front running style by International Luke Hurring(Canterbury) in 4.16.63 from Nathan Baxter(Otago) and New Zealand Cross Country Champion and International Andrew Davidson(Canterbury).
Davidson later won the 3000m(8.54.30) with fellow International Kellie Palmer (Canterbury) taking out the Womens event from World Junior Finalist Hannah Newbould(Canterbury)
Local lad Simon Small (Canterbury) won the Open Mens high jump with a leap of 1.90m
